CLASSIFICATION: Soft Sculpture Kit SUBJECT: Cricetinae (Golden Hamster) SCALE: Desktop Specimen (4.5" L) MATERIALS: Ashford Wool (NZ) | Czech Glass ROLE: The Silent Rodent

The biological hamster is a nocturnal agent of chaos—prone to biting, escaping, and running on a squeaky wheel at 3:00 AM. This kit allows you to construct the idealized alternative.

This project is a study in organic geometry. Using the medium of needle felting, you will transform loose fiber into the spherical, compact form of a hamster. It requires you to engineer the subtle curves of the cheek pouches and the distinct, alert posture of a creature pausing to listen.

It results in a companion that possesses all the visual charm of the species, with absolute behavioral discipline. It stays where you put it, it requires no cedar shavings, and it will never bite the hand that made it.

THE CURATOR'S NOTES

  • The Fiber Provenance: We utilize four distinct shades of New Zealand Ashford wool. This specific fiber has a high crimp, allowing you to blend the colors to recreate the golden-brown gradient of a natural coat rather than a flat, cartoonish color.
  • Internal Structure: The kit includes a chenille wire armature. This internal skeleton allows for subtle posing of the paws and head, giving the sculpture a spark of life.
  • Optical Precision: We rely on Preciosa Ornela beads from the Czech Republic for the eyes. They catch the light, creating the wet, inquisitive gaze that defines the rodent family.
  • The Scale: At roughly 4.5 inches long, it is life-size. Placed on a desk, it is indistinguishable from a real specimen at a glance, making it an excellent tool for startling your coworkers.
  • The Inventory: Includes full architectural instructions, high-grade wool, glass optics, and the necessary felting heads.
