CLASSIFICATION: Cultural Textile Architecture (Hand-Woven) CONSTRUCTION: Flat Weave, Hand Woven MATERIAL: 100% Hand Dyed Wool PROVENANCE: Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico ROLE: Permanent Cultural Anchor
This rug is a direct conduit to the history of Teotitlán del Valle, a community where the techniques, foot looms, and passion for rug-making have been meticulously passed down through generations. It is an artisan-made asset, created one row at a time by a family-owned business in a small production environment.
The construction is a flat weave using 100% locally grown, hand-dyed wool, giving the piece a rich, authentic texture and depth of color. The bold, recurring geometric pattern (seen in the visual) asserts a strong visual presence, grounding the space with structure and cultural weight.
The Curator's Notes
- Production Cadence: Due to the artisanal process, the only size currently in stock is the 2' x 3'. All other sizes are custom made-to-order, requiring an approximate delivery time of 8–10 weeks.
- Material Integrity: The use of 100% hand-dyed wool ensures the highest quality of natural color saturation and textural longevity.
- Cultural Asset: This is an acquisition of a small-production, generational artwork, bringing the authenticity of Zapotec weaving tradition into the domestic domain.
