This pillow is an acquisition of an endangered textile art form. The material is meticulously crafted using a handwoven double-weave quilting technique that originated in Gujarat, India. This specialized weaving style dates back to the 1860s.
The unique quilted effect is achieved by hand-stuffing each woven square with cotton batting as it is woven. The pillow uses the same fabric on both sides for continuity and durability.
Crucially, this intricate weaving and quilting style is now preserved by only three families in India, making this pillow a genuinely rare cultural asset.
