This heirloom variety is prized not for its flowers, but for its foliage: deeply serrated, ruffled leaves that border on the theatrical. The color is a rich, near-black violet that absorbs light, creating a void of velvety texture amidst the greenery.

It is the botanical equivalent of wearing a velvet smoking jacket to a pool party. It is overdressed, moody, and entirely necessary for any gardener tired of the tyranny of pastels.

The Curator’s Notes:

• The Chromatic Depth: While it appears black from a distance, closer inspection reveals a "volcanic" center—a subtle bleed of magenta and red that glows against the dark margins.
• The Architecture: It grows in a tight, compact mound. It does not sprawl; it occupies its space with intent. Perfect for containers that require gravity.
• Germination Protocol: Critical. These seeds require light to wake up. Press them firmly onto the soil surface; do not cover them. If you bury them in darkness, they will refuse to grow out of spite.
• Maintenance: Occasionally pinch the growing tips. It enjoys the discipline and will respond by becoming bushier and more formidable.
